Government Releases New Exercise Guidelines
Regardless of what anyone tells you - there is no need to torture yourself in the name of physical fitness. Adults gain substantial health benefits from 2.5 hours per week of moderate aerobic physical activity according to the new Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans.
The report was released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services this week and provides recommendations for people of all ages and physical conditions. Aerobic - also referred to as cardiovascular - exercise can be as simple as walking or using a treadmill or exercise bicycle.
Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt said, "Regular physical activity over months and years produces long-term health benefits and reduces the risk of many diseases." For adults the risk is reduced for early death, coronary heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, colon and breast cancer and depression. Now that's good news! Source
