NYC Heat Regulations

Here's a little something to keep away the cold.  The New York City heating season runs from October 1 through May 31.  During those months building owners must provide tenants with heat as follows:

  • From 6 AM - 10 PM:  If the outdoor temperature falls below 55 degrees the temperature indoors is required to be at least 68 degrees.

  • From 10 PM - 6 AM:  If the outdoor temperature falls below 40 degrees the temperature indoors must be at least 55 degrees.
Tenants without sufficient heat should first notify the building owner, managing agent or superintendent.  If heat is not restored dial 311 to reach the Citizen's Service Center which is open 24-7.  Check the source link for additional information about NYC heat and hot water regulations.  Stay warm.  Source
