FTC Criticizes Credit "Repair" Companies

A Federal Trade Commission spokesman said they have "never seen a legitimate credit repair company." He said that although consumers pay these companies an advance fee of up to $2,000 to "clean" their credit, the only thing they deliver is false promises.

FTC-approved credit "counseling" is available for free or for a small fee. The National Foundation for Credit Counseling operates the most reliable network. The first step to repairing your credit is to check your free annual credit report. The source links provide additional information.
