Johnny Carter of The Dells Dies at 75
The Dells lead tenor Johnny Carter died from lung cancer last Friday at the age of 75. The Dells had many hits including Stay in My Corner and Oh What a Night. They are one of the few musical groups that never broke up, performing together for 58 years. The Five Heartbeats movie is loosely based on their story.
Before joining The Dells Johnny Carter was a member of The Flamingos who recorded I Only Have Eyes for You. He is one of the few artists to twice be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, once with each group. Source
