What Ever Happened to Patrice Rushen?
Remember Patrice Rushen who sang Forget Me Nots in the eighties? You may have seen her in the background at the Grammy Awards show several years ago. She was the musical director three years in a row.
Under the direction of Ms. Rushen in 2004 Beyonce sang Dangerously in Love, Outkast performed Hey Ya and Pharrell was part of a trio that did a Beatles tribute. It was the best Grammy awards production I've ever seen.
Ms. Rushen fashions her career after Quincy Jones. She is a classically trained pianist, a musical director and a composer. Her feature film composing credits include Men in Black, Waiting to Exhale and Hollywood Shuffle. She's also a professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Kirk Franklin, Mary J. Blige and George Michael are just a few of the artists who have sampled music by Patrice Rushen. Kirk Franklin had a huge hit with Looking for You the gospel version of Haven't You Heard.
