New Mosquito Virus
Oh dear. The United States is home to a new mosquito virus and this one is more serious than the West Nile virus that brought havoc ten years ago.
The chikungunya virus is a mosquito-borne disease that can be fatal according to a U.S. health expert. There is no vaccine. The infection causes fever, headache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, rash and joint pain. Symptoms can last for a few weeks or a few months.
The virus is spread by the Asian tiger mosquito, and transported by air travel. In the U.S. the mosquito is found mostly in southern regions east of the Mississippi but also has been found in Western Texas, Minnesota and New Jersey. Here we go again. Source
