Rae Carruth's Son: Ten Years after Mother's Murder

Remember former Carolina Panthers player Rae Carruth who hired a hit man to murder his pregnant girlfriend because he didn't want to have a child? After she was shot Cherica Adams called the police and reported the crime to a dispatcher, naming Carruth as a suspect. She died in the hospital one month later.

Chancellor Lee Adams was delivered by emergency C-section, ten weeks premature. Although the four bullets missed him, loss of blood and oxygen to his brain left him with cerebral palsy. His grandmother has raised him and last month he celebrated his tenth birthday.

Lee was never expected to walk or talk. Today he is in third grade in a class with five other handicapped children. He can say about one dozen words, and has taken as many as 184 steps at one time, without falling. He is learning how to walk up and down stairs on his own.

Rae Carruth is serving an eighteen year minimum prison sentence. He has seen his son twice. Check the source link to read a touching feature article that the Charlotte Observer recently published about Lee.
