Federal Court Rules on Vaccines and Autism
A special branch of the United States Court of Federal Claims ruled last week that the vaccine additive thimerosal is not linked to autism. The decision was rendered in the case of William Mead of Oregon who is autistic. The court concluded that his parents failed to show a connection between autism and the mercury found in thimerosal.
Advocacy group Autism Speaks said they will support research to determine whether certain children have an increased risk of harmful side effects from vaccines. However, they believe that vaccine benefits outweigh hypothetical risks. The group encourages parents to vaccinate their children in order to protect them from childhood diseases.
Thimerosal has been removed from most vaccines in the United States.
