Isley Brothers Bass Player Marvin Isley Dies at 56

Bass player Marvin Isley of the Isley Brothers died in a Chicago Hospice this week at the age of 56. He had struggled with diabetes for more than twenty years and lost both legs to the disease.

The original members of the Isley Brothers began to record music in the late fifties. Marvin Isley, Ernie Isley and Chris Jasper joined the group in 1973. They made their debut on the classic 3+3 album featuring Who's That Lady with Marvin on bass.

With the younger players in the group the Isley Brothers had 14 Top 10 R&B records between 1975 and 1980. In 1984 the three new additions branched out on their own to form Isley Jasper Isley and had a No. 1 R&B hit with Caravan of Love.

Marvin Isley returned to the Isley Brothers in the nineties but had to drop out due to health concerns in 1997. He was inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame with the Isley Brothers in 1992. The Cincinnati native is survived by his wife and three children.
