Panel Recommends New Federal Guidelines for Sodium Consumption
A government appointed advisory panel has recommended that daily sodium intake be reduced to 1,500 mg per day. The current guidelines recommend 2,300 mg daily.
This panel makes dietary recommendations every five years which serve as the basis for the popular food pyramid, and for many federal nutrition programs including school lunches. A final version of the guidelines is expected by the end of this year.
