Whitestone Bridge Construction Begins

One bridge opens; another one closes. The Whitestone Bridge Bronx approach replacement construction was scheduled to begin yesterday according to the print edition of the Daily News. One lane of traffic will be shut down. The first phase of the project is expected to last for one year.

The source link maps to the MTA Bridges and Tunnels Construction page. Their website does not give a whole lot of information but we also posted a link to YourNabe.com which provides a good overview and timeline of construction on the Whitestone Bridge.

WHY in the name of NYC traffic, does the city find it necessary to make bridge repairs at the HEIGHT OF RUSH HOUR?! Is there no such thing as construction AFTER rush hour?!

I agree with Robin. I think it's totally unnecessary to do bridge repairs during rush hour. With the economy still in a recession, I would imagine that there would be plenty of construction companies willing to work at night just to stay busy and in business.
