Pelham Parkway Reconstruction Slated to Begin

Things will get worse before they get better, once Pelham Parkway South reconstruction begins this summer. Expect traffic to be snarled for two years, as construction takes place Monday through Friday from 7 AM - 8 PM, and Saturday from 9 AM - 8 PM.

Only one eastbound lane will stay open where the work is underway. Community Board 11 has asked the city to reopen a Bronx River Parkway exit at Birchall Avenue in order to ease the congestion. Traffic is not the only problem. Community residents are unhappy about the 85+ trees that will be uprooted.

Don't feel bad Cousins. We survived a similar project in the Yankee Stadium community. It lasted for three years. On the upside, the project will deliver new roads, sewers, water mains, sidewalks, curbs, street lights, traffic signals, guardrails, stone walls and 246 new trees.

The Daily News published a technical article in the local news section of the print edition on June 29. The source link maps to the NY Post piece which focuses mainly on the environmental aspect.
