Actress Vonetta McGee Dies
Actress Vonetta McGee died of cardiac arrest in Berkeley, California on July 9 at the age of 65. During the seventies she was popular in black movies that included Blacula, Hammer and Shaft in Africa.
Vonetta McGee had big pretty eyes and a pleasant face. She played the title role in Melinda in 1972 but her character was killed off within the first thirty minutes of the movie. Ms. McGee dated Max Julien from The Mack. He produced Thomasine & Bushrod as a vehicle for the couple to star in.
In the eighties Vonetta McGee had a recurring role in the Cagney & Lacey TV series. She played the wife of Detective Mark Petrie, a role played by Carl Lumbly. The two actors were married in 1986. They have a son named Brandon.
