What Ever Happened to Daryl McDaniels of Run-DMC?
Rappers Run-DMC enjoyed great success during the eighties, receiving numerous accolades and awards. The group began to unravel when Darryl (DMC) McDaniels began to lose his voice in the nineties. He can still talk. He just sounds different now.
Several years after McDaniels' voice changed, the group's DJ Jam Master Jay was murdered; and they officially disbanded. During the time of upheaval McDaniels discovered that he was adopted, and set out to find his birth mother. His journey was chronicled in the 2004 documentary DMC: My Adoption Journey which earned him an Emmy award.
McDaniels may have lost his voice but he's still got his swagger. Several years ago he performed his solo rap song Just Like Me (Cat's in the Cradle) on Ellen DeGeneres' show and he definitely owns stock in hip-hop.
Today Darryl McDaniels is an advocate for foster children. In a joint venture with former Sopranos director Sheila Jaffee, he formed the Felix Organization, a three-week summer camp for foster children, located in Westchester County.
