Literary Classics Banned in the USA

Our politically correct society will produce generations of children that go through life without ever reading many of the finest literary classics because these books have been banned from American schools and libraries.

Banned Books Week is an annual event that stresses the importance of making unorthodox or unpopular viewpoints available for all who are interested. This year it's observed from September 25 through October 2. The AARP website posted a "Power of 50" list to coincide with the event. Ten of their favorite banned books are listed below.

Banned in the USA
  1. Animal Farm by George Orwell
  2. Lady Chatterly's Lover by D.H. Lawrence
  3. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
  4. Forever by Judy Blume
  5. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien
  6. Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
  7. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
  8. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
  9. Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
  10. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
Wow. Some of these books were really difficult reading. Why couldn't they ban them while we were still in school? Just joking. Check the source links below to read the full list on the AARP website and to learn more about Banned Books Week on the ALA website.
