Holland Tunnel 5-Year Construction Project Begins

There will be many unhappy New Yorkers next week when the Hudson Street approach to the Holland Tunnel from Lower Manhattan shuts down due to construction. It will close this Sunday and won’t reopen until 2015.

In addition, the northbound traffic on Hudson Street will be reduced from four lanes to two. Beginning on Sunday, drivers will not be able to merge into the Holland Tunnel from Hudson Street. You will have to use the other approaches from Canal and Varick Streets, and the Watt Street entrance.

During the construction project workers will repair water mains under the street and connect them to the city’s new water tunnel. It’s doubtful whether this is consolation for harried drivers. Sorry guys. Source
