Avandia Sales Restricted in the U.S.

U.S. health officials have announced their decision on Avandia, the diabetes pill that's been linked to an increased risk of heart attack. Going forward doctors must sign a waiver stating that they have exhausted use of other diabetes medications before prescribing Avandia for new patients.

Last week's ruling is expected to essentially halt the use of Avandia in the U.S. In Europe the drug has been suspended altogether.
