AHA Releases New CPR Guidelines
The American Heart Association has released new guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation on someone whose heart has stopped beating. They have removed the "P" from CPR; and now say that mouth-to-mouth breathing is no longer critical.
AHA says rapid pushing on the chest is most important because chest compressions keep blood flowing through the body. Starting these right away and following up with a defibrillator can increase survival rates. AHA says the old recommendation of starting with two breaths delayed chest compressions.
