Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals has taken Darvon and Darvocet off the market because the drugs put patients at risk for potentially serious or fatal heart rhythm abnormalities. This is the brand version of the prescription pain medication propoxyphene.
The voluntary measure was at the request of the FDA. The agency requested generic manufacturers of propoxyphene-containing products to remove their products as well.
